Not talking much during the meal has been a long tradition in Korea. Do not think it strange but ask simple questions. Also, making some noise when eating means the food is delicious.
When people are invited to someone¡¯s house for dinner, making sounds when eating shows their gratitude. (Also many kinds of food in Korea are hot, spicy and has much broth. Therefore it is hard not to make any sounds.)

They are quite straight forward when answering, and also they lack the expression to describe the tastes at times.

In Korea, students show their friendship with the same gender by holding hands, putting their hands on friend¡¯s shoulders, arm in arm, etc. This does not mean they have any sexual intentions. They feel the closeness through body contacts. This also applies for mother to son or daughter. Some fathers even take a bath with their daughters to feel close as a family. Explain to the students that Americans or Canadians have a private boundary and do not like to be touched any time, anywhere.
